Every athlete who trains at Roots Athletics starts in the same place: a one-time evaluation. Not because it's a formality — because everything we do afterward depends on it.
What we actually look at
The evaluation is a full picture of where your athlete is today:
- Movement quality — how they rotate, decelerate, and get into the positions the game demands
- Throwing patterns — arm path, timing, and how their delivery holds up as effort climbs
- The swing — what's working, what's leaking, and what's just a phase of growth
- Strengths and limitations — physical and mental, honestly assessed
- Goals — theirs, not just yours
None of that shows up in a 10-minute warm-up before a lesson. It takes a dedicated session to see it, and it deserves one.
What you leave with
You don't leave with a sales pitch. You leave with an individualized development plan: what we're going to work on, in what order, and why. A 9-year-old learning catch play and a high schooler chasing velocity should never be on the same plan — and after an evaluation, they aren't.
Why it's non-negotiable
Coaching without a baseline is guessing. Guessing with a young arm is a risk we won't take. The evaluation is how we protect your athlete's health, respect your time, and make sure every session after it moves them forward on purpose.
